Venture south to discover the roots of Christianity at Khor Virap Monastery and explore the winemaking village of Areni. Continue to Jermuk, known for its hot springs and scenic landscapes.
Explore ancient observatories at Karahunj and medieval centers like Tatev Monastery. Head north to Lake Sevan, a significant Silk Road site, and delve into Dilijan’s charm. Visit Haghpat and Sanahin Monasteries before exploring Saghmosavank, Karmravour, the Armenian Alphabet Monument, and Amberd fortress. Return to Yerevan for cultural exploration at the History Museum and brandy tasting at Ararat Brandy Company.
Conclude your journey with a visit to the vibrant Gum Market before heading to the airport for departure.
Day 1: Yerevan (Arrival)
After your arrival at the airport, you will be transferred to the hotel in Yerevan and checked in. Overnight in Yerevan
Day 2: Yerevan
Today will visit some places of interest in capital Yerevan such as Matenadaran Museum (presents old Armenian translations and works of all spheres of medieval science and art, old printed books and a database of roughly 23,000 manuscripts), Genocide Museum (Armenia’s official memorial dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide 1915), Republic Sq.(Central square of the Yerevan city) North Ave., Opera House, Cascade stairway and Vernisaj (the open air exhibition and sales of master pieces of art works). Overnight in Yerevan
This afternoon, you will have the opportunity to join a delightful and memorable location where you can join master classes on preparing famous Armenian dishes. You’ll have the chance to taste the meals you’ve prepared, allowing you to explore Armenian cuisine and culture more deeply, and enjoy some quality time with the locals.
Day 3: Geghard-Garni-Yerevan
Today we will go adventurous with Jeeps! Driving to Garni pagan temple which is the oldest standing building (Greco-Roman architecture) in Armenia built in 1st century.
On the way will stop at famous Charents’s Arch and will enjoy the fascinating view of biblical Ararat mountain and valley.
Continue to Azat reservoir where we will have a coffee stop, light off-road driving to Garni gorge and visiting one of the most amazing natural monuments of Armenia (Symphony of Stones).
After sightseeing we will have lunch. Continue our journey to 13th century Geghard monastery which is partly carved in a rock (listed ad a UNESCO World Heritage site), in the end we will go for another light off-road driving up to Geghama mountains slops to view point of monastery. Overnight in Yerevann
Day 4: Khor Virap-Areni-Noravank-Jermuk
On the fourth day, explore southern Armenia in Ararat Province. Visit the renowned Khor Virap Monastery, a holy site for the Armenian Apostolic Church and a significant pilgrimage destination. This is where Armenia’s Christian history began, with Gregory the Illuminator imprisoned underground for 13 years in the 3rd century. His release marked Armenia’s conversion to Christianity, making it one of the earliest Christian nations.
Proceed to Areni village in Vayots Dzor, known as the winemaking center of Armenia. Taste various wines at a local winery, then continue through a narrow canyon to the red rock valley, where Noravank Monastery awaits. The day concludes in Jermuk, a mountain resort town famous for its hot mineral springs and picturesque scenery. Overnight in Jermuk
Day 5: Karahunj – Tatev – Khndzoresk – Jermuk
After breakfast, head to Karahunj, a 7500-year-old observatory in Syunik Province, often referred to as the Armenian Stonehenge. Continue your journey to Tatev Monastery, a medieval center of learning in the 14th and 15th centuries. Explore the site and take the opportunity to ride the world’s longest cable car, spanning 5.7 km over the 320-meter-deep Vorotan River Canyon. Pause at the natural bridge known as “Devil’s Bridge” before visiting Khndzoresk, known for its ancient cave dwellings used until the 1950s. These rocky hills served as homes and storage spaces for food. Conclude the tour and return to Jermuk. Overnight in Jermuk
Day 6: Selim Pass – Lake Sevan
Begin your day with a journey to the north, exploring Gegharkunik Province along the Great Silk Road. Stop at the Selim Pass to admire the views and visit the well-preserved 14th-century Selim Caravansary—a notable hostel along the ancient Silk Road. After that, head to the stunning Sevan Lake, one of the world’s highest freshwater lakes at approximately 1900 meters above sea level. Overnight in Sevan
Day 7: Lake Sevan – Haghartsin – Dilijan
For the start of the day, head to Sevanavank Monastery on Sevan Peninsula. Explore the remnants of this ancient monastery, including two temples, Surb Arakelots and Surb Astvatsatsin, surrounded by numerous khachkars. The monastery, constructed from black tuff, is aptly named “Sevanavank” or “the Black Monastery.” The deserted temples offer a stunning view of the lake, with mountains and snow-capped peaks encircling it.
Continue your journey north to Tavush Province, with a stop in the charming resort town of Dilijan, known for arts and crafts, lush nature, and healing air. Later will have an excursion to the medieval Haghartsin Monastery. Overnight in Dilijan
Day 8: Dilijan – Haghpat – Sanahin
The day begins with a visit to Parz Lake in Dilijan National Park, created by natural climatic changes. “Parz” means clear in Armenian. At the lake, you’ll find paddle boats, rope courses, and zip lines. The tour continues to the UNESCO-listed monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin, dating back to 976. These 10th-century Armenian architectural gems, overlooking the Debed River, showcase the rich heritage of the region. Despite facing damage from various sources, including a major earthquake in 1988, both monasteries stand as typical examples of Armenian architecture. Return to the village to enjoy the remainder of the day. Overnight in Haghpat
Day 9: Saghmosavank – Karmravor – Amberd – Yerevan
In the morning, take a drive to Saghmosavank, a 13th-century Greek-cross style monastery that played a significant role in medieval Armenia’s religious, academic, and cultural development. Head to Karmravour, the well-known historical site in Ashtarak, dating back to the 7th century, constructed from large square stone blocks. It features a small cross-shaped church with a porch facade, and legend has it that the church’s name represents the dress colors of three sisters who tragically fell in love with the same man.
Next, visit the monument of the Armenian Alphabet, established in 2005 to celebrate the 1600th anniversary of the alphabet’s foundation. Drive to Amberd, a rare historical site that has survived from the 7th century in good condition, or some attribute it to the 11-13th centuries. The name “Amberd” translates to ‘fortress in the clouds,’ reflecting its location 2300 meters above sea level. Overnight in Yerevan
Day 10: Yerevan
Explore the significant historical sites of Yerevan today. Begin at the History Museum of Armenia, the country’s main historical museum, featuring archaeological, numismatic, and ethnographic collections. Next, visit the Ararat Brandy Company to taste the renowned Armenian cognac with a tradition dating back to the 19th century. The Ararat trademark is globally recognized. Conclude your tour at the Gum Market, where the front section offers dried fruits, nuts, spices, and sujukh. Experience the passion of traders who eagerly offer free samples to capture your attention. Overnight in Yerevan
Day 11: Yerevan (Departure)
